There are many different varieties of rockfish in the waters off the coast of Port Renfrew. Yelloweye (sometimes marketed as "Pacific Red Snapper" in the grocery stores) are the biggest of the bunch, growing to up to 24lbs and beyond.
Rockfish are a lot of fun to have on the line and after you reel 'em in, the photos you take are guaranteed to draw a few comments. The "Yelloweye", "Rougheye" and "Tiger" rockfish varieties are particularly photogenic.
Rockfish are quite lean, moist and tender, with a slightly sweet flavour.

JR can find the fish and make them bite. The fish cooler was overflowing and my arm was sore from reeling in the halibut and salmon. Sensational fishing and beautiful scenery off the West Coast of Vancouver Island.
